GWM ORA 5

The GWM ORA 5 BEV Ultra Luxury is the electric flagship and highest-priced ORA 5 in the six-derivative South African launch range. Its official July 2026 price is R599,900. The mechanical headline is 150 kW battery-electric drive with a 58.33 kWh battery, with maximum output quoted at 150 kW and 260 Nm. Those are local GWM figures, not an overseas-market substitution. This derivative uses the same 4,471 mm length, 1,833 mm width, 1,641 mm height and 2,720 mm wheelbase as every other ORA 5, together with 225/60 R18 tyres, a temporary spare, MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link independent rear. The grade decision is unusually transparent. BEV Ultra Luxury carries a heat pump, electric tailgate, panoramic roof, 50 W wireless charger, powered passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, memory, folding heated mirrors, ambient lighting and the full Ultra driver-assistance suite. It still receives synthetic leather, a six-way powered driver's seat, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, 14.6-inch touchscreen, voice control, six speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front Type-A and Type-C USB ports, a rear Type-C port, automatic air conditioning with rear outlets, keyless entry, automatic front wipers, LED lighting, reverse sensors and a 360-degree camera. Six airbags, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, stability and traction control, hill hold, tyre-pressure monitoring and ISOFIX are also common. That specification matters because the ORA 5's trim names can sound as though Super Luxury is basic and Ultra Luxury is merely decorative. In practice, Super Luxury already covers the equipment many owners use daily. Ultra Luxury is a substantive upgrade centred on front-seat comfort, the panoramic roof, powered tailgate, mirror and window convenience, ambient lighting and a long list of assistance systems. For this derivative, the correct question is not whether the next grade has more; it clearly does. The question is whether those additions solve recurring tasks in the buyer's week. The official source also sets useful limits. GWM does not publish local boot volume, ground clearance, kerb mass, towing capacity or turning circle in the July brochure. It also omits AC charging time and DC peak charging power. Hagalu therefore does not attach overseas values to this South African derivative. Buyers who need those measurements for a garage, wheelchair, trailer, long gravel route or charging plan should request the current local homologation sheet from the dealer before paying a deposit. Ownership cover is better documented. The derivative table lists a seven-year/ 200,000 km vehicle warranty, seven years of unlimited-distance roadside assistance, a seven-year/75,000 km service plan and 12-month/15,000 km service intervals. The BEV also receives an eight-year/150,000 km high-voltage battery-system warranty. Buyers should read the signed schedules for exclusions and time-versus-distance limits, but the local table gives this variant a clear ownership baseline. On value, BEV Ultra Luxury should be compared first with the matching powertrain in the other grade. Its Ultra Luxury premium is R50,000, and the powertrain output does not change with that spend. Cross-powertrain comparisons come second because purchase price, fuelling or charging routine and performance change together. That two-step comparison is the most reliable way to avoid paying for the wrong advantage.
