Transparent calculation method

How This Car Repayment Calculator Works

The calculation separates the vehicle price, optional deposit, borrowed amount, interest and any optional balloon so a low monthly figure cannot hide the full cost.

1

Work out the amount financed

Vehicle price minus the optional upfront deposit. A larger deposit means less money is financed.

2

Calculate equal monthly instalments

The entered annual rate is converted to a monthly rate and applied over the selected 36–84 month term. An opened balloon option leaves part of the balance for the final payment.

3

Show the complete repayment

Total You Pay equals the deposit plus every monthly instalment plus any final balloon. Total Extra You Pay as Interest is the finance interest above the vehicle's cash price.

Car Loan, Vehicle Finance & Insurance Planning

Car loan calculator

Compare monthly repayments and total interest

A useful car finance calculator does more than show EMI. Compare the amount financed, yearly capital reduction, total interest, total paid and any balloon still due after the final scheduled instalment.

Vehicle finance

Stress-test the interest rate and loan term

Use multiple rates before applying for vehicle finance in South Africa. A longer term or balloon can lower the monthly repayment while increasing the total credit cost or leaving a large final balance.

Car insurance

Budget for insurance before choosing the car

A car insurance quote depends on the exact vehicle, driver, address, cover, excess and insurer assessment. Keep the expected premium, fuel, tyres and servicing outside the loan instalment when setting an affordable monthly budget.

Clear answers

Car Finance & Insurance FAQs

How do I calculate a car loan repayment in South Africa?

Enter the vehicle price, deposit, annual interest rate, repayment term and an optional balloon. Hagalu calculates the estimated monthly instalment, extra interest, Total You Pay and the year-by-year reduction in loan principal.

What interest rate should I use in a South African car finance calculator?

Use the rate in your written lender quotation. Before you have one, compare a realistic range rather than relying on a single number. The calculator shows lower, selected and higher-rate scenarios side by side.

Does the Hagalu EMI calculator include car insurance and lender fees?

No. The repayment estimate covers the entered vehicle price, deposit, interest, term and balloon. Initiation fees, monthly service fees, credit life, comprehensive car insurance, tracking and dealer extras can increase the real debit order.

Can I request car finance or loan approval through Hagalu?

Hagalu is a vehicle research and buyer-enquiry platform, not a credit provider and does not promise approval. You can send an enquiry for vehicle-price and next-step support, then compare formal quotations from registered providers.

Can I request help with a car insurance quote in South Africa?

You can mark car-insurance support in the enquiry form. Insurance pricing depends on the driver, vehicle, address, cover, excess and insurer assessment, so no premium is promised by this page.

What does Total You Pay include in this car calculator?

Total You Pay includes the optional upfront deposit, every scheduled monthly instalment and any final balloon payment. It excludes lender and ownership charges listed in the calculator disclaimer, because those depend on the written quotation and the buyer.

Can I calculate a car loan without a balloon payment?

Yes. The calculator starts with the balloon option switched off. Open Add a balloon payment only when you want to compare a deal that leaves a final lump sum owing.

What does a balloon payment do to my vehicle finance?

A balloon leaves part of the principal for the final payment. It lowers earlier instalments but usually increases the total interest and creates a final lump sum that still has to be paid.
