Ldv Terron 9

The Terron 9 is a large five-seat 4x4 double cab offered in mechanically matched Premium and Flagship grades.

The Terron 9 became one of LDV South Africa's newest additions in 2025 and sits above the T60 as a larger premium double cab. Two finalized grades are published: Premium and Flagship. Both carry the same 2.5-litre turbo-diesel, eight-speed automatic, four-wheel-drive system, dimensions, rated masses and extensive safety package. Flagship changes selected comfort and cargo-access details rather than creating a second powertrain. The diesel produces 163 kW at 4,000 rpm and 520 Nm from 1,500 to 2,400 rpm. LDV lists a 180 km/h maximum speed and 11.5-second referenced 0-100 km/h time. Its automatic has eight forward ratios, manual control and a 2.640 low-range ratio. Normal, Eco and Sport cover ordinary driving; Mud, Snow, Sand and Tow address changing surfaces and loads; the deeper terrain set includes Rock, Deep Snow, Deep Mud, Wade and Rock Crawl. Intelligent real-time torque-on-demand works with front and rear on-demand differential locks. Those systems expand the operating envelope, but the driver must still understand the selector sequence and surface limits. At 5,500 mm long and 1,997 mm wide before mirrors, the Terron 9 is a substantial vehicle. Wheelbase is 3,300 mm, unladen clearance is 220 mm and LDV publishes 180 mm at maximum load. Approach, departure and breakover angles are 29, 25 and 20 degrees, with a 500 mm wading figure. The factory box is 1,561 mm long at floor level, 1,610 mm wide and 535 mm high, narrowing to 1,200 mm between wheel arches. Premium has a derived 920 kg payload and Flagship 860 kg, 3,500 kg braked towing rating and 80-litre tank. Combined diesel consumption is listed at 7.9 l/100 km, with 208 g/km CO2. Premium already carries seven airbags, a 2024 five-star ANCAP rating, autonomous emergency braking, lane and blind-spot systems, adaptive cruise control, front and rear sensors and a 360-degree camera. It also includes dual 12.3-inch displays, navigation, JBL eight-speaker audio, wireless smartphone integration, automatic climate control, heated steering, heated front and rear seats, a ventilated and massaging driver's seat, leather trim and 20-inch alloys. The rear suspension is multi-link independent rather than the T60's leaf-spring layout. Flagship adds the items marked above Premium in the official sheet: panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, an openable rear panel and a turnover end-gate arrangement. Both have an electric tailgate, lift assistance, roof rails and side steps. This means Premium is not a stripped workhorse; Flagship is a focused convenience and ambience upgrade. LDV covers Terron 9 for five years or 200,000 km. Its 2026 ownership notice separately gives the model scheduled servicing for five years or 100,000 km.

Where the Ldv Terron 9 Fits Best

A practical view of the buyer and roads this model is best suited to.

Who buys this

Terron 9 targets a buyer who wants a full-size bakkie for towing, remote travel and family use without accepting a basic commercial cabin. Premium is already highly equipped. Flagship suits those who specifically value the panoramic roof, ambient lighting and flexible tailgate arrangement.

City
Urban use exposes the Terron 9's scale. Its 5.5-metre length, 1.997-metre body width and 13.3-metre kerb-to-kerb turning circle require large parking spaces. Front and rear sensors, the 360-degree camera and electric tailgate help, but they cannot create clearance. The automatic, adaptive cruise and massaging driver's seat make congestion less tiring. Buyers should measure garage width and height with mirrors, roof equipment and the chosen tailgate open.
Highway
The 520 Nm torque band, eight-speed automatic, 80-litre tank and independent rear suspension suit long-distance travel. A 3,500 kg braked trailer is allowed, but the 850 kg payload must absorb people, luggage, accessories and towball mass. Tow mode is available, yet a legal combination still depends on actual weights and correct trailer braking. The published 7.9 l/100 km combined figure should be stress-tested against wind, speed, load and the large frontal area.
Off-Road
Low range, front and rear locks, torque-on-demand and the detailed terrain modes give Terron 9 unusually broad factory hardware. Published 220 mm unladen clearance falls to 180 mm at maximum load, an important distinction when touring equipment is added. Its long wheelbase and 20-inch wheel package demand deliberate line choice. Treat the 500 mm wading figure as a maximum operating reference and check water flow, bottom condition, recovery access and the owner's manual before entry.

Ldv Terron 9 — Should You Buy It?

Premium is comprehensive; Flagship is a targeted luxury upgrade.

Terron 9 combines serious four-wheel-drive hardware with a cabin that needs few excuses. Premium already carries the safety, displays, comfort seats, JBL audio, cameras and mechanical capability that define the model. Flagship makes sense for buyers who will use its panoramic roof and unusual rear access, not for anyone expecting extra engine output or payload. The decisive cautions are physical size, an 850 kg load ceiling and ground clearance that reduces under maximum load. Both grades also require the same loaded-clearance and tyre-cost discipline.
