The Swift is extremely well suited to South African urban driving. The Z12E DualJet's immediate low-rpm torque makes pulling away from traffic lights crisp and confident in a way the S-Presso's 989cc engine cannot match. The CVT variants are particularly effective in Joburg's stop-start peak hour — the transmission's smooth power delivery removes the jerkiness of conventional automatics in crawling traffic. At 890kg the car feels alert rather than sluggish in city conditions. Parking is manageable given the compact 3.84m body length, and the GLX's reversing camera makes tight parallel parking practical even for less experienced drivers. Fuel costs in city driving average around 5.5 to 6.2L/100km.
