Ford Everest

Uganda's seven-seat Everest pairs diesel power with four-wheel drive. Active, Sport and Platinum differ in engine output, transmission, wheels and assistance equipment.

Everest is for the family whose travel plan extends beyond the school run. Seven seats, diesel engines and locally listed four-wheel-drive configurations give it a different purpose from Ford's Territory crossover. That does not make every Everest identical. The Uganda grade descriptions separate a 2.0-litre single-turbo Active, a 2.0-litre bi-turbo Sport and a 3.0-litre V6 diesel Platinum. Reading the badge alone misses changes that affect how the vehicle carries a full passenger load, what equipment the driver uses and which wheel-and-tyre package will need replacing later. Active is a useful reference point because its mechanical description is already substantial: 125 kW, 405 Nm, a six-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel drive and a rear differential lock. Ford Uganda lists seven seats, dual-zone climate control, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat and a 12-inch SYNC 4A touchscreen. The 18-inch wheel package also gives it a different tyre-shopping brief from the larger wheels on higher grades. Active is not simply an empty starting specification assembled to advertise a low price. Sport moves to a bi-turbo diesel with 154 kW and 500 Nm, paired with a ten-speed automatic. Black exterior details distinguish it visually, but the more useful differences are inside and around the driver: a ten-way powered seat with memory, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert are listed. Its 20-inch wheels need to be considered alongside those benefits. A wheel size is not a ride-quality verdict; tyre construction, inflation, load and the road surface all influence what passengers feel. Platinum brings the V6 diesel combination quoted at 184 kW and 600 Nm. Its equipment list adds a 12.4-inch instrument display, a twelve-speaker Bang & Olufsen system, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof and powered folding for the third row. These features may matter to a household spending long days together in the car. They are not substitutes for checking whether the third row and remaining luggage room suit those passengers. The top grade's 21-inch wheels also deserve a separate tyre availability and cost discussion. The family test is simple: use all the seats you expect to use, then load the bags. Seven seating positions do not promise seven adults equal comfort, nor do they create unlimited carrying capacity. Passengers, luggage, accessories and trailer nose weight all contribute to the vehicle's load. If towing or remote travel is central to the purchase, establish the limits and equipment of the exact derivative. Everest can combine several roles, but the most successful purchase begins by deciding which of those roles occurs every week and which is only an occasional ambition.

Where the Ford Everest Fits Best

A practical view of the buyer and roads this model is best suited to.

Who buys this

Everest suits a household or organisation needing passenger seating alongside a genuine four-wheel-drive requirement. Its shortlist should include people who can explain why they need the third row or the drivetrain, and who have room in their budget for the tyres, servicing and fuel of a substantial diesel SUV.

City
Before signing for a large seven-seater, try the parking space it will occupy most often. The ability to see a kerb on a screen is helpful, but it does not make a narrow entrance wider. Active's rear camera and sensors provide a starting point; Sport adds a surround-view system. Check the seating height against your passengers' ease of entry, especially for children and older relatives. A successful city test includes opening the doors and unloading bags, not only driving around the block.
Highway
Long-distance family use is where seating adjustment and temperature control can matter as much as the engine upgrade. Active, Sport and Platinum have different outputs and automatic transmissions, so test the version you intend to buy with a realistic load. Sport and Platinum list adaptive cruise control; learn its following-distance settings before using it on a journey. A brief test cannot prove fuel consumption for your route, and there is no verified Uganda-specific consumption figure here to turn into a guaranteed travel budget.
Off-Road
Ford Uganda lists a rear differential lock, 229 mm ground clearance and an 800 mm wading figure for these Everest grades. The wading number is a specified capability under conditions, not an invitation to cross an unknown flooded road. Water movement, hidden damage, depth changes and the required preparation still matter. Ask for a demonstration of the exact 4WD controls and recovery guidance. Tyres, load and route choice remain important even when a vehicle has the appropriate mechanical equipment.

Ford Everest — Should You Buy It?

A serious seven-seat diesel SUV, with enough mechanical and equipment variation to make the exact grade a consequential choice.

Start an Everest comparison with Active and write down what the next grade changes for your family. Sport adds both a different powertrain and useful assistance equipment; Platinum combines V6 torque with a more elaborate cabin. That is a better basis for a decision than treating the badge ladder as an automatic route to the best car. The third row, luggage space and parking footprint need to work first. Once they do, a dated UGX quotation and the actual derivative's load limits will show whether the extra engine and comfort equipment fit the ownership budget.

What's Good
  • ✓Three distinct local diesel powertrain and equipment combinations.
  • ✓Seven-seat layout with four-wheel drive in the listed grades.
  • ✓Rear differential lock is listed even on Active.
  • ✓Sport and Platinum add a broader camera and assistance package.
Watch Out For
  • ✕Third-row use reduces the space available for luggage.
  • ✕20- and 21-inch packages require careful tyre-cost comparison.
  • ✕Range-wide airbag headlines need exact-grade confirmation.
  • ✕Derivative-specific fuel use and tyre costs still matter alongside the purchase price.
